Hi, I’m Carin.

I am Senior Talent Acquisition Manager and therefore responsible for building up our fantastic team. That means finding great talents and creating an enjoyable candidate experience as well as a structured onboarding process. I also dive into other HR-related topics, such as HR-Management or Employer Branding.

Who am I

I was born in Germany and raised in a little town between the Alps and Lake Starnberg. Studied in Neu-Ulm and came back to work in Munich. Before I started my journey at StudySmarter, I worked 3 years as a Tech-Recruiter. I enjoy hanging out with my friends, going for a hike, caring for my plants, practicing on my ukulele and trying new food spots. All in all I would describe myself as pretty relaxed, humorous and open minded.

Pugtato. ((if foto not possible: it's the photo of a pug sitting in tin foil with a piece of butter on top like a baked potato)). Why? He is round, he likes it cozy and looks a bit lost. Basically me :D

Passionate about

I am passionate about self care. A big part of my life is being very social, attentive and communicative. I think over time I've realized that I am the only person that I actually have to spend the rest of my life with. So, regardless of me having a great social life with wonderful friends, a fulfilling job and compassion for other people, I want and need to feel good by myself too. So, I really enjoy and need alone time without the feeling of missing out or “wasting” time - just hanging with myself. I can only recommend everyone to really explore yourself and create rituals around caring for yourself :)

Working at StudySmarter

StudySmarter was a great opportunity for me to create a challenging career for myself and simultaneously have an impact on a very important social topic. I would have loved the StudySmarter platform when I was in university, because (to be honest) I was a pretty average student myself. Working here is awesome. I have smart, ambitious and funny colleagues. I love what we are achieving and creating everyday and to find talented people to join us on our journey is a great reason to get to work everyday. AND probably the most important reason I like working here is because I can pet our cute office dogs almost everyday ;)

Typical day

First things first: Coffee, chatting with colleagues and greeting the office dogs for sure :) Then I usually check my calendar / toDo's and prepare myself for upcoming meetings. During the day I conduct a few interviews, team meetings, go through messages, check in with my colleagues on new tasks, ideas and get a second coffee. Next up: Lunch time - very important and always a good reason to step outside for a walk. After lunch it’s more interviews, active sourcing, reviews, people management, coming up with ideas for employer branding, meetings, Linkedin and lastly preparing for the next day. After work: Dinner / playing darts / maybe a after work drink with colleagues / workout / sleeping... it depends :)

Successful in your role

Listen Successful Illustration

The first thing I thought of was “to be a good communicator” but more importantly you need to know how to listen (actively and empathically). Sounds simple but it’s true. There needs to be a match on both sides and you are the “gatekeeper”. So you need to be able to ask the right questions (which you can prepare easily) but then you need to listen and really understand (in interviews and with to your stakeholders) what both sides are looking for in the long term. So staying curios and listening to what people have to say. Sounds easy, but is actually sometimes harder than you might imagine.
